Drew Barrymore is skating her way into Michigan’s film industry.

Yesterday, Barrymore ventured to Farmington Hills to skate with a few of her Metro Detroit fans. The event was put together to promote her brand new movie, “Whip It.” Filmed right here in Michigan, “Whip It” is Barrymore’s directorial debut.

Almost a thousand people came out to Bonaventure Skating Rink to meet and greet Barrymore and thank her for contributing to Michigan’s suffering economy.

The line to enter the rink was long, and though Barrymore only hung around briefly it was well worth it. Several dozen people won Channel 95.5’s morning contest to get autographs from and pictures with Barrymore.

Barrymore wasn’t the only one from “Whip It” in attendance. Several of the Detroit Derby Girls made a pathway of linked arms for Barrymore to enter through, and spoke to the press about Barrymore’s influence on them. Most of them confessed how much Barrymore helped them fine-tune their acting skills.

“Whip It” is due in theaters nationwide on October 2, and the people of Michigan will be the first in line to buy tickets.
