It is here, folks — Linkin Park is officially back in effect! The highly anticipated album A Thousand Suns will be available September 14, 2010. A Thousand Suns is the band’s fourth major studio release and first in three years.
Their first single “The Catalyst” hit radio earlier this month, kicking off what is sure to be an intense build-up period.
One can only imagine what emcee Mike Shinoda and lead singer Chester Bennington have cooked up this time with the rest of the guys. Their last full-length release Minutes to Midnight took the nu-metal LP in an entirely new direction.
If “The Catalyst” is any indication though, we’re in for a huge treat. Shinoda had mentioned an ‘end-of-the-world’ feel to the music video, which definitely shines through — in every aspect. The first verse of the song says, “God bless us everyone / we’re a broken people living under loaded gun.”
It has some of the same themes heard on Minutes to Midnight minus the ripping guitar chords. There’s a lot of different sound in “The Catalyst,” Shinoda himself admitting that they played around quite a bit. He’s also confessed to caring less and less what people think about their new sound, which “The Catalyst” definitely showcases. More vocals and piano combined with less guitar ends up being something Linkin Park fans aren’t used to.
Linkin Park will be performing “The Catalyst” at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. To help kick off the album release, the band will also perform at the Best Buy Theater in New York City on the day of the release, September 14. Additionally, they’ll have a laser light show and multimedia listening session in Los Angeles on September 7.
Fans will have to wait until after Labor Day for the album, but “The Catalyst” shows that it’ll probably be worth it.
