Kim Kardashian’s face is plastered on the cover of just about every celebrity gossip magazine you could imagine. While everyone’s opinions about the Kardashians are different, you can’t deny it’s valid entertainment for some. The newest Kardashian program “Kourtney and Kim Take New York” came to an end last night, and the season finale generated a ton of buzz in the Reality TV world.
It’s easy to see why, outside of that world, the Kardashians don’t mean that much to some. Their notoriety actually stems from the late attorney Robert Kardashian and his representation of O.J. Simpson in the 1995 murder trial. But his wife Kris Jenner had her own involvement in the trial and recently wrote an autobiography.
But this is about Kimberly and her endeavors. If you know anything about Hollywood gossip you know that back in August 2011, Kim married NBA star Kris Humphries. Their wedding in Montecito, California was broadcast live on E! and only added fuel to the publicity fire. Sure a lot of people tuned it, but they still caught flack for the hoopla.
And it was even worse when in October, 72 days after that wedding took place, Kim Kardashian announced she was splitting from her husband…of two months. The tabloids had a field day, most of them questioning he validity of the marriage. “Mistake or Fake” was the headline on every gossip magazines that week. Was it all a publicity stunt for yet more bank for the Kardashians?
But one can question that when you watch the season finale of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York.” Kimberly looks genuinely sad; she cried every other time you saw her. It’s common knowledge to anyone who pays attention to Kim that she wanted to be married with children by 30 and that birthday has already passed.
Sobbing, Kimberly admitted to her sister that her relationship with and marriage to Humphries happened fast and she may have been rushing into things. She also confessed that she wasted a lot of time, money and “everything” with her wedding. Not only this, but she felt bad for uprooting Humphries and making him move to New York.
The straw that broke the camel’s back seemed to be when Humphries wanted to move all of his things to Kim’s house in Los Angeles. Kim was, almost immediately, visibly uncomfortable with that prospect. I’m not sure how obvious it was to Kim that they were headed toward divorce but it was quite clear to me; it’s understandable to have trouble adjusting, but to have a problem with him moving his things in at all? It shouldn’t turn her off so much to share space with her husband.
Now the show is over and Kim said she was relieved to be leaving New York. She wasn’t leaving on a positive note, either. The issues with Kris were probably still fresh wounds and privacy was the one thing she wanted but might not come by easily. Being a celebrity is hard enough, but when you market yourself like Kim Kardashian you’re asking for extra hassle.
What’s next for Kim and her sisters? In their personal lives, Kourtney is working with her boyfriend Scott Disick in his business ventures and will likely rest while carrying their second child. Kim will deal with finalizing her divorce more than anything else.
One thing is for sure; they won’t be out of the limelight anytime soon. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not.
