Teens unite at the 2012 awards made just for them

The room was filled with adolescence and excitement. The Teen Choice Awards builds up the anticipation in everyone; you don’t need to be a teenager to enjoy the night. But no one can deny it’s made for them and 2012 was no different.

Hosts Demi Lovato and Glee’s Kevin McHale were lovely, but it was hard not to notice a bit of awkwardness. However, the show must go on! No Doubt was the first performer of the night with their brand new single “Settle Down.” Gwen Stefani took it back to their rocker roots with loose pants and a spiky pony tail.

The biggest winners were Taylor Swift, “The Hunger Games,” the Twilight saga and Justin Bieber. Swift took home four awards, including Choice Female Artist. Bieber took four as well, missing out on Choice Love Song but picking up Choice Male Artist.

The Biebs’ performance made up for that loss though. His was quite easily the best of the night with a futuristic feel. His dancing and vocals were both super sharp; and add in a cameo by Detroit native Big Sean and you have the entertainment for the entire ceremony.

Bieber’s four awards included Choice Male Music Star of the Summer, Choice Male Artist and Choice Male Single for “Boyfriend.”

We can’t forget about the Twilight saga. This series has won 41 total surfboards since 2008. This night they were honored with the Ultimate Choice, which Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner accepted together.

But there are other awards that can’t be overlooked. Selena Gomez and The Scene took home home Choice Music Group and the host herself, Lovato, won Choice Twit. Choice Comedian went to Ellen DeGeneres, Choice Webstars went to the adorable Sophie Grace and Rosie and starlet Taylot Swift nabbed Choice Female Artist among her awards.

Other than winners and Justin Bieber’s performance, there wasn’t much more to the show. Selena Gomez got a birthday cake on stage while accepting her band’s award and Flo Rida performed as well, but other than that this was your typical Teen Choice Awards. If it wasn’t for the Biebs this show would have reeked.

Hopefully next year will bring more surprises…and more Bieber.
